Originally built in 1975, the Anne de Bretagne bridge, designed primarily for car traffic, is undergoing a transformative redevelopment. The renovation will expand the bridge’s current surface area roughly threefold, incorporating a more diverse use of space. The updated bridge will feature a 61-meter expansion on the Quai de la Fosse side and 43 meters on the Prairie-aux-Ducs side, introducing a square, promenade areas, gardens, soft traffic lanes, and tramway lines.
The design retains the existing bridge structure, preserving 4,800 tons of concrete and transporting the entire steel structure via the Loire to minimize road traffic and environmental impact. 18% of the bridge’s total area, will be devoted to green spaces.
